Lil’ Blackberry, our sweet little rescue
Lil’ Blackberry was rescued shortly before midnight on August 17 (Black Cat Appreciation Day!) Found with right front paw severely wounded, full thickness tissue loss with exposed bone, she could barely move. We rushed her to the vet first thing in the morning.
Paw was burnt and torn, most likely as the result of being ran over by a vehicle. Presumably, once injured, she managed to run away getting her little paw stuck in a fence causing even more damage to the wound. By running away (from the vehicle), she certainly did save her life but nothing could be done to save her little toes!
Last Monday, Blackberry had surgery, suffering the amputation of 4 toes of the right front paw, leaving the paw with just one toe and only part of the center pad. Bones had to be scraped, nerves cauterized, burnt and damaged tissue had to be removed. Blackberry is now being treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory.
She now limps on 3 legs but maybe one day she’ll be able to walk on all 4 legs again.

Blackberry’s latest UPDATE
A week after surgery, she’s recovering well although her wound still needs some time to close and heal completely. After surgery there were a few minor setbacks. 36 hours after surgery, as bandage was removed, the wound was smelly which was not a good sign. Vet suggested the use of a lighter bandage to let more air through which would help the wound dry up faster… but it was so light and thin, she would tear it apart and remove it herself. We were then forced to keep her paw without any bandage at all, carefully cleaning the wound after everytime she had to go to the litter box. 4 days after surgery, vet removed stitches, and the wound looked already much drier and no longer smelly. She had to take anti -inflammatory tablets for a week to help the pain and she’s still on a fourteen-day antibiotic course.
She’s such a lil’ fighter

A few people have already donated via our main donation page (One Click One life) a total of $250 dollars to help Blackberry. However, we’re still in great need of funds so we have setup a donation page exclusively for Blackberry’s vet care, meds & fostering expenses. Blackberry is a girl ♥ She’s such a brave little gal! We’ve taken her to the vet every day since surgery to clean her wound and change bandage. She lets the vet do the work and she hardly complains at all although it obviously hurts a lot. Nights have been a bit rough,. She’s been in a lot of pain and sometimes she cries out loud … she’s just a baby & she probably misses her mommy. We spend a lot of time with her late at night, to comfort her and reasure her. After a while she eats some wet food and falls asleep. She wakes up very early… around 6am! …eats and rests all day long and only leaves her little bed when she needs to go to the litter box. It breaks our hearts to see her make such a huge effort, walking on 3 legs, but she’s so brave she does not want any help!!! We have already fallen madly in love with her ♥
Blackberry saved his life but nothing could be done to save his/her little toes! Blackberry needed the amputation of 4 toes of the right front paw, leaving the paw with just one toe and only part of the center pad which had to be reconstructed. Eventually, this paw pad reconstruction will help him walk on all 4 legs again, once wound is fully healed. Paw was burnt and torn, as the result of being ran over by car. It seems that once injured, he/she tried to run away and got stuck in a fence causing even more damage to the wound.
