Gordo stole our hearts!

When we moved into our condo on Hilton Head Island, Gordo, a neighborhood stray, came to visit us from day one he sort of “adopted” us: he ate what we fed him (outside), he tried to come inside, and he stayed close to our condo.

One day, when my mother-in-law was visiting, he followed her in.

So things changed and we began to let him in to visit off and on. Then on January 22, 2025, Hilton Head Island experienced an unusual winter snow storm.

We feared the wintry weather and very cold temps would be a struggle for him (even though he has lived outdoors his entire life), so with the help of some neighbors, we got him to come inside before the worst happened.

And just like that Gordo made himself at home.

He watched us play chess, sat nearby while I worked, and got some of the best sleep of his life.

Since then he has stolen our hearts (and much of our home!) … and he enjoys belly rubs too!

Gordo, from Hilton Head Island (USA), was entered for the first time in LoveCATS’ photo contest in 2025, aged 10. His rescue story and beautiful photo entries won him a 4-page display in LoveCATS’ 2025 Photobook Beautiful Cats & some Rescue Stories First Edition.
