Little Dude succumbed to the stress of being abandoned

Little Dude was taken to an animal shelter in California after his owners could no longer afford to keep him.

He weighed a staggering 36 pounds – three times the weight of a normal cat!

When he arrived, he was barely able to walk and handlers put him on a strict diet.

The 10-year-old feline moved to a foster home in California, as veterinarians tried to get his weight down but then, he succumbed not only to his size but also to the stress of his life changes.

Little Dude did not enjoy the diet food and stopped eating altogether. He then needed a feeding tube to make sure he got enough nutrients.

They managed to get his weight down to about 31 pounds, but despite his progress, vets said he was stressed by the changes in his life.

‘It was really difficult for him to breathe and the stress of being displaced from his home is pretty common for adult cats – and he was a senior cat.’ vets said.

He crossed over the Rainbow Bridge in his foster home, before he could be rehomed.

‘My heart is absolutely broken right now. Little Dude was a treasure. A beautiful, precious, invaluable gem. I have never known a soul like him and I doubt I ever will. I am so blessed to have been his foster mom.’ Angela said.
