Poor Billy had not one but two potential new adoptions fall through for a number of reasons, and the charity was desperate to find him a new forever home by St. Valentine’s Day.

Sweet Billy was included in their list of adorable pets who needed homes but sadly, black cats like Billy can be tough to rehome due to the enduring superstition that they bring bad luck.

In the end, the only one who was unlucky was Billy himself – that was, until St. Valentine’s Day.

On 14 February 2022, more than a year after Melanie’s first visit ever to the shelter, Billy’s new mom finally decided to apply to adopt him after seeing his profile and reading his story online.

‘Billy had been one of our longest stay pets, but we’re so pleased that he has now found his perfect forever home,’ said the shelter supervisor.

Billy was a little nervous when he first arrived at the shelter but once he settled his personality started to shine.

Billy is playful and affectionate and he enjoys lots of head tickles and belly rubs, playing with toys and now he can finally enjoy curling up next to his mom and falling asleep on her lap.
