Billy saved his mom’s life by jumping on her chest during heart attack

Sam was asleep when seven-year-old cat Billy woke her up by pounding his paws on her chest and meowing loudly. The unusual behaviour happened as Sam was having a heart attack – but she was not aware of what was going on!

When Billy’s mom woke up she suddenly realized that she was sweating and unable to move her body and felt terrible pain down her right side, so she called out for help.

Soon after, Sam was rushed to hospital and once she got there the doctors explained that one of her arteries had been blocked causing her a mild heart attack.

The doctors said she got to the hospital just in the nick of time and thanks to Billy’s swift actions they could save her life.

‘Billy has never woken me up in the night before, he never bothers you. He doesn’t wake me up for food or anything but that night Billy was on my chest and was meowing loudly in my ear. Suddenly I woke up all covered in sweat and couldn’t move.’ the proud cat mom explained.

Can cats sense heart attacks or other illnesses?

A cat behaviour expert explained that Billy may have picked up on physiological changes in his mom and that could be that the reason why he jumped on her and was meowing, as a sign of his anxiety.

‘It was him reacting to the situation. I do believe he probably did save her life, because that’s what enabled her to get medical help, but I wouldn’t go down the route of saying he did it on purpose.” the expert said.

Regardless of what experts say, Sam is very proud of her Billy and she strongly believes her fur baby extraordinary intervention saved her life.

‘Whatever it was, I’m just glad Billy woke me up!’ she said.
