Cat owners in Maui are frantically searching for beloved furbabies who have gone missing in the wildfires.
Some people said they were forced to flee without their pets while others said they weren’t at home when the flames began to spread and are now desperate to find out if their pets survived.
One of them is Sahar Elharar, who said her four cats were missing in Lahaina, the historic town which has been wrecked by the fires, and pleaded with help to find them.
‘I can’t lose hope just yet … I’m homeless and heartbroken, yet am considering myself incredibly lucky. I’m going soon to try and find them, my hope is that they ran towards the highway or ocean.’ she said.
The Maui Humane Society says many animals are also in need of critical care due to smoke inhalation, burns and dehydration.

Feral and stray cats have also been victims of the wildfires of Maui and caregivers are trying to get track of them.
That’s the case of Putkin, a 2 year old tabby who was being fed on the streets by a couple, last seen on the day before the fires in Lahaina started.
Putkin is “an orange striped tabby, striped tail, spayed, with a clipped left ear, yellow eyes and a red nose.” her caregivers said. They hope she found safety and has survived the fire somehow.
“She’s also microchipped. We love her and will adopt her, if she’s found!” Putkin’s cargiver said.

Stray cats at a feral cat colony on Hokeo have been missing and their caregivers have been able to find only one that was hidding under a car.
They continue searching other areas. In the meantime, good samaritans are putting food and water out for street cats.
Among the pleas, there are also tales of hope from those who have been reunited with their cats!

ROCKET IS SAFE AND SOUND!
“The house miraculously didn’t burn and his water lasted the last couple days even with the intense heat from the fence & surrounding structures burning. We are so thankful and I wish for equally good outcomes for those still searching for their pets and family.” Julie wrote.
CC was in pretty bad shape when she was found, she could not even stand but now she’s recovering well and since she was microchipped she could be reuinited with her family.
