Ukrainian teacher teaches children how to help homeless cats

Iryna, a teacher of foreign literature in Lviv, makes sure she also teaches her sixth-graders, kindness and compassion for homeless cats.

“Why do I do this? Because I love animals, and I’m especially fond of cats … I have 3 cats!” she says.

She teaches children to sympathize not only with animals but also with people, not to be indifferent, to see and hear those who are around them, either humans or animals.

Iryna teaches her students compassion, commitment and responsible ownership, starting with the basics: “feed the kitty, don’t hurt the kitty.”

“A small bag of cat food costs like a cup of coffee but can save a life.” the Ukrainian teacher said.

When temperature drops, homeless animals need our help more than ever; in winter, they can hardly find any food without human help.

Feeders for stray and feral cats

Cat feeders made by charity volunteers began to appear all over the city center of Lviv and the sixth-graders were eager to join the initiative.

“We borrowed the idea of cat feeders from the Internet. “they said.

Students made “cat booths” for the four-legged homeless, and, of course, made sure to supply food and water as well.

They placed feeding stations for homeless cats in their neighborhood with the help of their parents and grandparents.

UPDATE 03/13/2022 – The Ukrainian city of Lviv, near Polish border, has not yet been touched by Russian bombs but its people are getting ready for the worst.

The citizens of Lviv are among the strongest supporters of the country’s separation from the Soviet Union; Lviv is described as the soul of Ukraine and a symbol of Ukrainian nationalism.
