Known as the Redruth train station cat, Hector was the grey and white cat who, over the last 10 years, amassed thousands of fans amongst train travellers in the UK and also all over the world.
Thousands of people around the globe are now heartbroken to learn that one of Cornwall’s most famous cats has recently and unexpectedly crossed over the Rainbow Bridge due to heart failure, he was 14 years old.
Sweet Hector first started wandering the train station platforms in 2013. He would make regular visits to the ticket office for naps and make his presence known in the surrounding streets of the town.

Hector would roam around Redruth’s tracks every single day, greeting passengers and bringing smiles to faces. He was believed to be have been around fourteen years old when he passed away.
The sad news was announced on Hector’s Facebook page. The post reads: “We’re so sorry to say that Hector has sadly passed away, one of his slaves made it to the vets in time to say goodbye. We knew he had a heart murmur and the vets believe it was his poorly heart that unfortunately gave up.”

They had him cremated and his ashes will sit under his picture forever in his favourite train station.
Hector would be regularly spotted in the station waiting room (despite not technically being allowed) and he even had his own piggy bank that went towards food, vet bills and care.
Hector was a much-loved presence for travellers who spent any time at Redruth station. One of his fans said: “I used to really enjoy seeing him at the station, especially in the waiting room sprawled out on the sofa that was obviously bought with his preferences in mind.
