Rosie, worked at ‘her pub’ for 25 years!

Rosie is the cat that got the cream amongst the regulars of her pub – after clocking up 25 years of age!

Rosie could be seen standing at the bar of the Swan with Two Neck pub in Lancashire until she reached her 25th birthday, which made her one of the oldest cats in the UK.

Christine, her mom, said: “She always had good company and enjoyed time by the open fire and I think the real ale fumes have helped as well.

‘She is quite frail and she has always been small, but she is a real character. She is so happy when people are around, because she has grown up in a pub. ‘We’ve had other cats over the years, but Rosie was so special.

‘Not a day went by without anybody asking how she was and lots of people used to take photographs of her on their phones – I think she secretly enjoyed her celebrity status.

Rosie, who was always mistaken as a kitten because of her petite frame, loved nothing more than being in the thick of the hustle and bustle of the bar. ‘She very rarely went upstairs,’ said Christine.

‘She loves being stroked by all the customers and lying stretched out in front of the fire.’

In summer, she’d go out to the benches and lie in the sun. The family got a scare a couple of years ago, when Rosie developed cancer on her ear.

Rosie had to get part of her ear chopped off – maybe it was down to too much sun-bathing – but it all made her even more popular.

Some cats can get really nervous amongst too many people, but Rosie was just so lovely with the crowd.

She was such a character, in her own little way.

Longevity genes

Rosie had a litter of kitten in her lifetime and it seems longevity genes ran in the family.

One of her kittens lived up to the age of 18 while another one had reached 19 years of age when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
