Staff at a Scottish shelter were surprised when a tortie kitten handed to them turned out to be a rarity – a boy!
99.9% of tortoiseshell cats are female. Only a couple of male torties are born each year and so that made Harry a very rare baby.

When vet heard the cat was called Harry, she said to the owners, ‘I think that might have to be a Harriet’.
“I had to change my words when I discovered it was male. I’ve never seen one before and I’ve been a vet for more than 30 years.” vet said.

It is almost always the case that these rare male torties are sterile, but the vet advised the owners to take no chances and so he has neutered as soon as he was old enough.
